Saint Charles



Founded in 1769 as a post along the Missouri River by, a French Canadian fur trader and hunter Louis Blanchette, Saint Charles is a city located in Saint Charles County.

St. Charles served as the territorial capitol of Missouri and was the first state capitol from June 4, 1821 until October 1, 1826 when the state capitol was moved to Jefferson City. Saint Charles covers a total area of 54.0 km² (20.8 mi²) of which land comprises of 52.7 km² (20.4 mi²) and water comprises of 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²).
